I was on my way back from dropping off my girlfriends car at her work. I took it to get a tire repaired. On the way, someone rear ended me. Given that I had her permission, am I covered even though I’m not listed as a driver on the policy? Insurance company is progressive.

Yes, you are covered. But if you were rear ended I would turn it into the others drivers insurance. But you would be covered on your girl friends insurance as well since you were "on a mission" for the insured.
…really guy that hit you will pay [his company]
If your name is in the insurance card your covered but if not then your kinda in a mess. did your girlfriend put your name in the insurance card ?????
Since you were rear ended this person who hit you will have to pay for the damages not you. Well their insurance will have to pay.
When someone gives you permission to borrow their car, since insurance goes with cars and not with drivers, generally you are covered. The exception would be if the policy has restricted to something like "Only drivers over the age of 25 are covered" and you aren’t.
But in your case, since you hit from the rear, this is not your fault, and Progressive won’t be paying out. Damage will be repaired by the insurance of the person who hit you.
Progressive is a real stickler. If you have regular access to her car – which you do – and you’re not listed, they will likely deny the claim. They’ll also require her to add you on to the policy.
HOWEVER, this claim isn’t really Progressive’s claim – unless you’re in a no fault state and have injuries. This is REALLY the claim on the guy who rearended you – and HIS insurance won’t care if you’re listed as a driver or not.
Yes, with rare exceptions, you should be covered if you had her permission and a valid drivers license. But….the other insurance will most likely be liable since they rear ended you. G/F should notify her ins. co. anyway
