Advanced Driver Training

If you hold a full driving licence you may wish to go on and become an advanced driver with a qualification that you can display on your car informing others that you are a safe driver that has passed a stringent advanced driving test.

In the United Kingdom there are several organisations that offer a qualification for advanced drivers.

The Institute Of Advanced Motoring is one organisation and they have members all over the country that help with the training before you sit your advanced driving test.

The Driving Instructors Association is another group that offer an advanced driver training programme. Their qualification is known as the Diamond Advanced Certificate and driving instructors with most driving schools can help you with the required training.

The test to become an advanced driver is substantially harder than a normal driving test. In the first place it is conducted over nearly twice the time frame, up to one and a half hours. Secondly you will be required to do all of the manoeuvres to a high standard plus you will be required to drive over a route that takes in all forms of roads. Town and country plus dual carriageways and motorways if there are any in the region that the test takes place.

The normal driving test allows 15 minor faults but if you are to prove yourself as an advanced driver training candidate you will not be able to exceed 6 minor driving faults. Not easy, you will probably need several sessions with a fully qualified driving instructor before attempting an advanced driving test.

There are definite advantages! You will be a safer driver. Passengers will feel much more comfortable. You may even be able to use your new qualification if you are considering becoming a professional driver. Ambulance and Fire Engine Drivers for example.
